Waxing and Waning pt. 1


Over the weekend I went to the John Lawson reception, which I think that the idea of bad weather kept the hoards away. However it gave me the opportunity to speak with him about his work.

The biggest revelation for me was that he had collaged together all of these salvaged drawings and pictures, then drew on top of all of them, connecting them in a pictorial way. After that came the encaustic.This encaustic offers a kind of psychological twist to the work, in that now it is permanent. What was once destroyed and subsequently reclaimed is now permanently encased. Think Fayum.
