I can't say I would like his paintings in person (I've never seen them in person, that I can remember) but there's something here in the above image, belonging to the venerable Tate Modern of course, that I like. Peter Doig has said that he wanted to make ugly surfaces which I feel is a little irresponsible, but you know Joan Snyder's surfaces aren't necessarily pretty and I really like many of her paintings. Now that I think about it, the above jpeg reminds me a bit of a Joan Snyder painting.
