Marc Fisher talks about Jazz in DC schools today. This is a subject near and dear to my heart as Jazz education and scholarship have been the recipient of a number of my charitable dollars.
This is especially relevant since the city has unveiled plans to build a bohemoth hotel/retail center. They always aprove this stuff with "good intentions", i.e. more revenue for schools and libraries. But the proof is in the pudding as mom always said, so I encourage you to examine the state of DC schools and libraries and tell me how much all of this splendid develpoment is benefitting the nation's capital. -sigh-
Tomorrow I will discuss the Scott Joplin's opera Treemonisha, Thomas Ades, and cowboys. Sorry about the tirade.
