Dead Horse Whisperkicking

I love learning. So, I learned today from Culture Grrl that there exists standard practices for deaccessioning works and objects from museum collections. And here I thought that it was a borderline criminal offense.

You can view the Smithsonian's Deaccessioning/Disposal criteria here. And view the Met's here. Pretty dry reading, a little like a resume. I like how open the terms seem to be like "redundant" and "lesser quality" and "no longer of value to the mission of the museum". That's a pretty wide berth in case you need to cover your phone bill or bolster your endowment.
