The Hole Yer In

I have been thinking a lot about John Currin for the past week. He has the Cranach touch in this painting from the Hirshhorn collection. There was an interesting interview with John Updike in the May/June issue of Humanities. He talks about the Holbein-esque quality of the turkey in the most famous Currin painting of recent times.

His subjects are at times gratuitous and pornographic (yawn). I don't think his paintings are going to save us or anything. Here is an interesting essay from January at Art Vent on the subject. Read and enjoy while I go and goof off with glazes.
